FREDERICTON -- Lansbridge University, a privately-owned, Internet-based university, has received official status by the province of New Brunswick as a degree-granting institution.

"We see ourselves complementing, not competing against, public institutions. Our market is very different. It's a global market of mainly fast economy professionals for whom classroom education does not fit into their busy work lives," said Michael Gaffney, president and CEO of Learnsoft Corp., which owns and operates the university.

New Brunswick's Degree Granting Act provides approval for private post-secondary institutions to ensure they meet criteria for degree programs.
